Design

The iPod Touch design shows the skillful thought of committed designers, hardware engineers, and usability experts. It measures 4.3 inches by 2.4 inches by 0.31 inch, with an all-metal-and-glass design. The iPod Touch uses a scratch-resistant glass.

There are only two physical buttons on the Touch:

  • a button on the face of the player used for calling up the main menu;
  • a screen deactivation button on the top-left edge of the case.

The Touch is controlled largely by an icon-based touch-screen navigation menu similar to that in the iPhone.
The 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPod Touch runs flush with the case and accepts any standard mini-jack headphone connection. Since there are no dedicated volume control buttons or controls for playing, pausing, and skipping through tracks, the Touch gives users the ability to bring up an onscreen sliders by double-clicking the main menu button.
